How do I change WiFi name and password?

Whether you are Windows 10, Mac, or any mobile user, whenever you forgot the router password, it is very important to reset it. The resetting process remains the same for all the devices. Some basic steps that you need to follow in order to change the WiFi password are given below:

Step 01: Open and access the configuration page of your router:

First of all, open any web browser in your system and then access your router’s configuration page. For this, enter the router’s address in the search bar of your browser. Alternatively, you can tap the Windows + R keys simultaneously and then enter cmd. And then, type “ipconfiq” in the command prompt screen and press “Enter”. Locate the “Default Gateway” address.

Step 02: Enter the password and the username of your router’s account:

It is important to enter login credentials, like user name and password to connect your device to the network. In case, if you don’t have ever changed the password of your router then the password and username will remain “admin”, by default. Though, these credentials totally depend on your router’s model, so always search your router model to check the exact details of your router. If you don’t remind the exact password or forgot it, then reset it immediately. You just have to press the Reset button for at least 30 seconds.

Step 03: Click and open the Wireless section:

After successful login to your router account, locate the Wireless section on the configuration page. You can search for the “Wireless” or “Wireless Settings/Setup” tab. If there are multiple “Wireless” sections, then open the Wireless Security page.

Step 04: Modify the password as your need:

Navigate to the “Password” box followed by “Passphrase” or “Shared Key” option. Enter the new password in this space provided. Always try to keep your password unique and strong.

Step 05: Check your security type:

Usually, there are three different types of wireless encryption: WEP, WPA, and WPA2. It is advised to use WPA2 in order to access premium security features for your network. Sometimes, you may face issues while connecting with the old devices, but you can resolve such issues by switching to WPA or WPA2. You can also choose WEP but it is not required in daily life as it is quite easy to break.

Step 06: Change the Network name:

It is also considered as a better option to change your network name. Make sure that the name does not include any personal information that is easy for people to guess. Modifying the name on regular basis will block the seeker to access your important and private information.

Step 07: Save all the changes made by you:

At last, you need to click on the “Apply or Save” option located at the top of the page after entering the new password. Now, you need to wait for some time that router will take to process the changes. Once the settings are successfully changed, connect to your wireless network using the new password.

If you have forgotten your WiFi password or need to change it, then the above-mentioned steps will definitely help you. However, if you are still facing any issue in between these steps, then contact the technical assistance team to resolve your issues at the earliest.
